Role in the husking stage
The roll pair acts on paddy to remove the husk. Assess its condition alongside the grain feed and the separation result rather than by surface appearance alone.
Identification record
Record the husker maker, model and serial number together with the roll part number. Capture the specified diameter, width, mounting and material from the supplier’s approved drawing.
Inspecting wear
Isolate the drive before inspection. Look for visible cracks, detachment, uneven wear or damage, and record where it occurs. Use the manufacturer’s discard criteria; this guide intentionally supplies no universal minimum diameter.
Before changing a setting
Confirm the permitted adjustment procedure and establish a baseline sample. A change that reduces remaining paddy may still be undesirable if it increases grain damage.
Replacement checklist
- Confirm the part and the manufacturer’s requirements for replacing a pair.
- Follow the specified alignment and fastening procedure.
- Refit guards and complete the prescribed commissioning checks.
- Log the new part identity and baseline husking result.
Common mistakes
Do not reach into a running feed path. Do not compensate indefinitely for damaged rolls by increasing pressure. Do not assume rolls fit because the outer width appears similar.
Related observations
Compare unhulled grain and broken grain before and after the husker. Use those results to direct further checks of feed, grain condition and the roll assembly.
