Why is my rice mill producing too much broken rice?
Check incoming grain condition, moisture consistency and the stage where breakage first increases. Excessive treatment or worn components may contribute, but a finished-rice sample alone cannot identify the cause.

Locate the first increase
Take comparable samples before husking, after separation and after whitening. Label them with time and batch. Use the same grading definition at every point.
Check moisture and grain condition
Incoming quality sets limits on the result. A moisture reading should represent the batch rather than one convenient handful. Record the instrument and sampling method, and investigate variation between subsamples.
Review recent changes
List changes to feed, grain source, machine settings and parts. A time-linked change is an investigation lead, not proof. Return to the documented baseline only when the operating procedure permits it.
Quick actions and longer-term prevention
Keep suspect batches identifiable, establish the affected stage and avoid mixing comparison samples. Over time, maintain a stage-sampling log and parts history so that recurring damage can be compared across runs.
Do not do
Do not chase a whiter appearance without measuring broken rice. Do not adjust multiple stages simultaneously. Never inspect rolls or screens while the equipment can start.
When to seek equipment support
If damage remains after input checks, provide the manufacturer with the equipment identity, settings, stage samples and recent service history. This is more useful than an unqualified broken-rice percentage.
